Daniel O’Connell Division Formed

ANCIENT ORDER OF HIBERNIANS FORMS NEW DIVISION DANIEL O’CONNELL – UNION #2

Honoring Elizabeth Division – Same Name and Number

On September 28th, the Daniel O’Connell Division was formed, and its members installed from Union County at the Cranford Elks on Lincoln Avenue East. This effort was in the making for several months and completed yesterday.

National Vice President Sean Pender stated, “Last night I was proud to invest the new officers of the Daniel O’Connell Division #2 of Union County NJ. This division had been inactive for several years due to an aging small group of members on our rolls.

Thanks to State President Richie O’Brien’s determination and Organizer Bill Young they collaborated with Tim O’Brien and local Irish American community groups, and we have 30 new members that have been or will be sworn in.  The best part is that this is NJ’s oldest charter from June 18, 1868, or 154 years old. So, we were able to save that history and re-establish the AOH in Union County.

Personally, I want to thank Richie and Bill for their great work; this was the division I first joined in 1981 and also where Richie’s grandfather used to bring him to the old clubhouse when he was young”.

Establishing a Hibernian presence in Union County was a commitment to my membership when elected State President. I am proud to say mission accomplished. My grandfather was a member of the Elizabeth Division and its great to see a strong and vibrant new group up and running. I will ensure newly elected/installed President Tim O’Brien receives support to ensure he and his board have resources to serve their membership and flourish. I want to thank Tim for working on recruitment and logistics and making sure everything was perfect. Please be sure to look for these Hibernian men at the Union St. Patrick’s Day Parade with their new member State Senator Joe Cryan, stated NJ State President Richard S. O’Brien.”
