2012Support The Commodore John Barry Run
For decades the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America has petitioned United States Navy historians and many others in the United States government to honor a true Irish American naval hero of the American Revolution.
Thanks to the hard work of two outstanding AOH members from Washington DC we have accomplished something that many people from the Ancient Order of Hibernians and graduates of the United States Naval Academy had never thought possible. Jack O’Brien and John McInerney have persuaded, through persistence and hard work, the United States Naval Academy Oversight Committee to approve a John Barry Memorial at the Academy in Annapolis , Maryland to recognize the Revolutionary War hero and son or Ireland.
In an effort to raise funds and awareness for this memorial, County Fermanagh born ultra marathoner Tom McGrath will run 250 miles from New York City to the Naval Academy Annapolis, Maryland.
The run will take place between July 21-28, 2012. The event will start in New York and travel through New Jerssey, Pensylvania, Deleware, and Maryland. Each day, the run will stop at a venue with a fund raiser event. The Events in NJ will be:
