Remembering Judith Ann Konecny

Please keep, LAOH member and mother of Florida State Board Treasurer William J. Konecny III,  Judith Ann Konecny and the Konecny family in your prayers.

The children and family mourn the loss of Judith Ann Konecny, 72, who died peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2014. Mrs. Konecny was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Elizabeth. From there she went on to study both at Katherine Gibbs as well as Kean University where ultimately she earned her Bachelor’s degree and became a teacher. Mrs. Konecny initially worked as a teacher in St. Leo’s parochial school in Irvington. She was employed for the City of Elizabeth Board of Education as a teacher for the balance of her career. She retired from the City of Elizabeth in 2003.

Mrs. Konecny was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the Elizabeth Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Mrs. Konecny was an avid reader who believed that books and education were pathways to knowledge. She fostered this love of books in her own children and in her students. She positively impacted the lives of countless children through her years as a teacher. Kahlil Gibran said of teachers, “The teacher who walks in the shadow of the temple, among his followers, gives not of his wisdom but rather of his faith and his lovingness. If he is indeed wise he does not bid you enter the house of his wisdom, but rather leads you to the threshold of your own mind.”

Judith Ann Konecny was such a teacher.

Mrs. Konecny traveled extensively with her late husband, retired Fire Chief, William J. Konecny, Jr. They enjoyed discovering the history of new places and experiencing local culture. Mrs. Konecny loved the beach and was always at home near the sea.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband retired Linden Fire Chief William J. Konecny, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, William J. Konecny III, Alice Konecny Thompson and her husband Thaddeus, and Kevin E. Konecny and his wife Michele; her dear brother Eugene J. O’Connell and his wife Louise; five cherished grand children, Jenna, Cassandra, Joannah, Ryan and Kathryn Konecny.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral Friday April 11, 2014 in the Werson Funeral Home, 635 North Wood Avenue, Linden at 9:30am.
