AOH & PAPD Members Visit Ireland to Honor Fallen Officer

On March 19, two members of the Port Authority Police Department, along with members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, visited Ireland for the 1916 Easter Celebration.

Police Officer Patrick Gorman and Police Officer Jessica Oritto both assigned to the Bus Terminal after landing in Shannon Airport met with Shannon Police Officer John Egan (retired) and Shannon Police Inspector Pat O’Neill. Officer Patrick Gorman is the son of Port Authority Police Officer & former president of NJAOH Division 8 Hudson County – Thomas Gorman PATH/ ESU who lost his life responding to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Inspector O’Neill and Police Officer Egan brought Patrick and Jessica with others to the airside fire station and showed them the PAPD September 11th Memorial and the stand alone memorial to Patrick’s father.

The memorial was erected by Officer John Egan who flew from Ireland to attend the Port Authority Memorial Mass shortly after September 11th at the Basilica in Newark. When he returned home to Ireland, he erected a memorial to Officer Thomas Gorman and one to the 37 Port Authority Police Officers who lost their lives on September 11th.
